The Asus ROG Phone 7 is a device worth waiting for if you enjoy playing mobile games. After all, both the Asus ROG Phone 6 and the Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate received reviews with 4.5 stars, and the latter now holds the top spot on our list of the best gaming phones.
The recently unveiled ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate appear to be equally outstanding devices at first glance, notwithstanding a few crucial improvements.
With no ‘Pro’ model to talk about this year, Asus decided it would be best to go right to ‘Ultimate’ for the branding of their newest and greatest gaming giant. The good thing about the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is that practically every piece of hardware, even peak performance, is the same, so you can give it your best no matter which ROG Phone 7 you ultimately choose.
Let’s now examine the features, specifications, availability, pricing, and accessories that these phones provide.
Design and Display
Although both models seem a lot like their predecessors, there are a few minor variations. Since the ROG Phone 7 series has the same 6.78-inch 165Hz Full HD+ display as the ROG Phone 6 (but with a Samsung E4 AMOLED panel that has a greater 1,500-nit peak brightness), it has the same weight and familiar dimensions.
The Aura RGB ROG ‘fearless eye’ logo, which has eight mood lighting presets and supports over 16 million colors, is housed in the two-tone Phantom Black and Storm White finish of the ROG Phone 7, which also has a mix of glossy translucent and matte rear glass.
The only available color is white, and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is different from the standard model because it has the AeroActive Portal, which we liked on the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate last year. It opens to let directed airflow from compatible AeroActive Cooler accessories, and the 2-inch ROG Vision rear display relays information like the time, notifications, and charge level.
Additionally, both versions include IPX4 splash resistance and configurable ultrasonic shoulder buttons.
Camera and Battery
Anticipate a comparable camera hardware configuration to the ROG Phone 6 series, with a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor in front of a triple rear camera arrangement that is complemented by a 5MP macro and a 13MP ultrawide sensor.
Features like “RAW super resolution” and “AI segmentation” improve image quality, particularly when zooming. Additionally, a high-resolution 32MP front-facing sensor means better selfies should be possible than with the 12MP camera found in earlier generations.
Battery specifications also appear to be similar, with a massive 6,000mAh battery supported by 65W HyperCharge once again. You don’t need to use proprietary cables to charge the ROG Phone 7 at the fastest rate.
Specs and Features
Obviously, the primary improvement is the chipset, which elevates this generation of ROG phones from a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 to Qualcomm’s most recent and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Asus’s proprietary X Mode helps to balance power consumption and performance and even offers customized optimization for particular games.
Another good upgrade over the AeroActive Cooler 6 that comes with the 6D Ultimate is the AeroActive Cooler accessory, which is offered separately with the Asus ROG Phone 7 but included in the box with the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.

As before, it distributes cold air throughout the Asus ROG Phone 7’s body to lower the device’s temperature when it’s loaded, resulting in longer gaming sessions and more efficiency.
This year’s Cooler features a ‘5-magnet super-linear’ subwoofer that promises 77% better bass performance, which works in tandem with the phone’s upgraded forward-firing stereo speakers to create a 2.1 channel audio system. In addition to a redesigned fan design that enables more efficient cooling, there is an additional duct that simultaneously directs air across the front of the phone, which is perhaps the most outrageous addition to a gaming accessory.
Naturally, the Asus ROG Phone 7 line also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, supports USB audio, and offers a variety of wireless audio standards over its Bluetooth 5.3 connection, such as Qualcomm aptX adaptive and lossless and wireless Hi-Res Audio, for those who prefer a more individualized audio experience in order to benefit from some Dirac tuning.
