Although the Oppo A54s lacks 5G and is a little slow, its respectable camera and long battery life make it look like a better deal. This phone isn’t really noteworthy, though.

You can’t help but ask who the Oppo A54s are actually intended for given the abundance of Oppo phones available nowadays. Everything is alright. All right.
At about $190, £179, or $299, it may seem like a good deal at first, but for a little extra money, you could get the Oppo A54 5G, which supports 5G and performs better. That makes you wonder why anyone would want to spend time with the Oppo A54s.
At least the camera is a help. Its primary sensor is 50MP and reasonably capable, and it has a triple-lens rear camera. It is easier to use than the majority of other phone features, making it the perfect choice for anyone on a small budget who are desperate to have access to decent photography. even if it slightly overexposes.
Design
The Oppo A54s has a similar feel to many other Oppo phones. The business has perfected the art of providing a low-cost phone that feels appropriately substantial in your hands. The pearl blue model, which we got some chance to use, looks good. It’s intelligent but bright, and it doesn’t reveal as many fingerprints as phones do.
A notch for the selfie camera is positioned throughout the display, as is customary with Oppo devices. Despite being in the middle of the screen, it is easily missed because it is not very large.
Instead of being on the back of the phone, the fingerprint sensor is located on the power button on the right side. It would be more convenient if it were integrated beneath the screen.
Three lenses make up the rear camera array. It’s not a big deal, but these stand out a little (you might want to budget for a case to keep them safe). Additionally, the ubiquitous Oppo logo is hidden in the lower right-hand corner and continues to draw a little more attention than we would want.
There is a speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the underside. We’ll talk about that later, but don’t expect a stellar performance from the speaker. The Oppo A54s weighs 190g and has dimensions of 163.8 x 75.6 x 8.4mm. It’s somewhat longer and wider than the Oppo A54 5G but that’s barely visible and it still feels comfortable enough to hold.
Display
Oppo phones often feature bright screens, and the Oppo A54s are no exception. Although it’s not the sharpest screen—its resolution is 720 x 1600, or 269 pixels per inch—we weren’t overly troubled by it when we watched Netflix.
Don’t expect any additional smoothness when browsing because this phone has a standard 60Hz refresh rate, which is to be expected for a low-cost phone. Nevertheless, we saw no slowness when playing games or watching movies.
It can also be used with reasonable competence in sunny weather.
Camera
Three lenses make up the camera configuration on the Oppo A54s. Its primary camera has a 50MP resolution and a 5x digital zoom. It is the trio’s high point.
A 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens are also included. Both are not very useful and aren’t worth your effort unless you’re in a dire situation.
An 8MP selfie camera on the front is sufficient for taking selfies or making video calls. Up to 1080p video at 30 frames per second is also available from the front and main cameras.
The Oppo A54s performs admirably in point-and-shoot photos, as anticipated. It did a fair job of capturing important details when photographing the nearby beach. However, the digital zoom is not very strong.
Oddly, the phone’s 50MP feature is off by default; however, you can turn it on in the settings to get a better picture.
Anticipate some overexposure as well. Although the graphics from the Oppo A54s is appropriately vivid and brilliant, it can occasionally be a little excessive. For example, it might make green grass appear overly bright. It’s not a big deal for a memorable photo, but it will annoy someone who wants more genuine pictures.
Although it’s not the best, there is a built-in night mode. Although it tries to take better pictures in low light than the standard camera mode, the results are typically a little blurry or not as clear as they should be. In actuality, it’s a last resort.
There are several software options available here, such as filters that offer some fun, much like with other Oppo phones. Nevertheless, all of this may be disregarded, and if you simply point and shoot, you’ll frequently obtain decent pictures.
Performance and specs
The MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, which powers the Oppo A54s, isn’t particularly quick. Despite having 4GB of RAM, this phone is not particularly fast.
Because of this combination, it is not very good at multitasking, and getting started with heavy-duty gaming will be slow and time-consuming.
The phone received a multi-core score of 991 and a single-core score of only 172 in our Geekbench 5 testing. That’s really low, which explains why you’ll feel hesitant about doing nearly anything.
In contrast, the similarly priced Moto G9 Power managed 311 and 1,371 in single-core and multi-core performance, respectively, while the little more costly Oppo A54 achieved 524 and 1,664 in both.
Oppo’s ColorOS runs with Android 11, which is pre-installed on the Oppo A54s. It’s a little less bloated, which is something. Additionally, we appreciate that you have 128GB of storage, so you shouldn’t run out of room very soon.
Battery life
The 5,000mAh battery of the Oppo A54s is quite good considering that the specifications aren’t particularly demanding on power. Even with pretty intensive use, the phone comfortably lasts more than a day.
The inability to enable wireless charging means you’ll have to take out an ugly cable, but at least you won’t have to do so frequently. You’re onto a winner when you combine the phone’s battery-saving features with its respectable battery life.
Is the Oppo A54 5G worth buying?
Nothing more is wrong with the Oppo A54s. It will work well on a budget if you want a capable and dependable gadget and speed isn’t a concern.
